Fernando Mazzocca Mazzocca MASTERPIECE SEASCAPE NAPLES BY THE RUSSIAN MARINIST SYLVESTER SCHEDRINE Since 1825 Shchedrin spent summer months in Naples, Capri and Sorrento. Urban views in his painting were substituted by views of nature, mainly sea cost views. In his sea view paintings of 1825-1827 Shchedrin reached the peak of his artist carrier. At that time the painter focused on harbors, caves and natural terraces scattered in a multitude on the shore and islands near Naples. Many times reproducing the same view Shchedrin always created an original masterpiece complicating his painting task and perfecting his way of work with nature. As his other paintings of the second half of the twenties of the 19th century the view of Capri really evidences of changes in the artist’s palette. The general colors of the landscape being cold and a bit silverfish reflect brilliance of the southern sun, mist of humid air enveloping cliffs and sea horizons.
