DU JAMAIS VU: BALMONT’S MANUSCRIPT FROM SERGE LIFAR’S COLLECTION BALMONT, Konstantin Dmitrievich (1867-1942) [Collection of poems]. Autograph in brown ink with the author’s correction of some lines (ink or pencil). Circa 1931 - [44] p .; 13,5 х 8,5 cm. - Notebook in brown leather binding. Stamped bookplate of Serge Lifar. In Yury Terapiano’s words, «there was no other poet amomg Russian émigrés who was just as keenly concerned about being cut off from Russia.» Balmont called emigration «life among strangers». In terms of creativity, however, this period was marked with an unprecedented flowering of his poetic inspiration, which becomes evident as one leaves through the pages of this stupendous manuscript. Provenance: from the collection of Serge LIFAR (1905-1986). On other Balmont’s autographs see: GAMALIY, (Arthur). Daniel Solojoff as a bibliophile. On his collection of books with autograph inscriptions. In: Bibliolatry and Private Collections. Moscou, Pachkov Dom, 2013, pp. 97-98 (in Russian).
